A ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï astronomer and Youtuber analyses the first images from Europe’s new space telescope, Euclid.

Dr Chris Pattison from the ºÚÁϳԹÏ’s Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation (ICG) is a Research Software Engineer who has written code for the mission.

He said: “These images are incredibly exciting for all of us, and are the culmination of over a decade of work across Europe. They are the first in-focus images from Euclid, and show us a snapshot of what the telescope is capable of. These are only short exposures and the clarity and resolution is already amazing, so seeing longer exposures when the survey starts is a very exciting prospect.â€

Dr Pattison has his own , which he uses to talk about all things astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology.

In his latest video, he talks about Euclid - the six-year mission to study two of the universe’s greatest mysteries - dark matter and dark energy.

He added: “There is still more commissioning to be done, and then Euclid will begin its mission to create the largest 3D map of the universe ever. I can't wait to see what it sees and teaches about the universe very soon!â€
