I worked as a Dental Nurse for six years before deciding to advance and become a Dental Hygienist. At the Dental Academy Open Day, I immediately felt ºÚÁϳԹÏwas where I wanted to pursue my further education.
I was impressed by the outstanding facilities at the East and West clinics, as well as the Phantom Head Skill Lab. The staff members were extremely polite and welcoming. They answered all of my questions. During the tour, I had the chance to ask current Dental Hygiene students additional questions.
I also learned about the Dental Development Programme offered by the University, which provides an opportunity for individuals who do not meet all the required grades to gain admission through UCAS.
Incredible support from the tutors
One of my favourite aspects of the course would undoubtedly be the clinic sessions. I find great pleasure in learning about procedures and applying that knowledge and skill to patients, under the supervision of knowledgeable tutors. It's incredibly fulfilling to see theory come to life and gain hands-on experience in a controlled setting.
The support we receive from tutors on clinic is incredible.
They genuinely care about ensuring you have a solid foundation of information and knowledge to effectively handle the patients in a comprehensive manner. It's truly remarkable to experience their dedication and commitment to our development.
The tutors go above and beyond to help us become confident and succeed in our chosen career path.

Teamwork in the summer clinic
It's a wonderful opportunity to work with fellow students, pooling our knowledge and skills to ensure the best possible care for our patients.
Through this clinic, we learn the importance of effective communication, coordination and cooperation among the dental team. We collaborate on treatment plans and support one another in providing dental care to our patients.
Participating not only enhances our clinical skills but also prepares us for future professional practice, where collaboration and interdisciplinary cooperation are integral to delivering high-quality dental care.
I am actively involved in an integrated summer clinic. This provides an excellent platform for fostering teamwork and collaborative patient care.

Practical experience in a local school
Four other students and I were assigned to promote oral health in a local school. The session, named Brush Up, involved educating students about the significance of maintaining a healthy mouth.
Our role included demonstrating age-appropriate brushing techniques, conducting cavity checks, and applying fluoride varnish as a preventive measure.
It was a rewarding experience to contribute to the oral health awareness of the students and help them establish good dental hygiene habits.
The clinic has been invaluable, allowing me to develop both as an individual and as a team player in the field of dentistry.
