Dr Mario Saraceni
Biography
I have been at the ºÚÁÏ³Ô¹Ï since 2004. I previously worked in Bangkok, Thailand and in Nottingham, where I received my PhD in 2001. I have travelled extensively in Southeast Asia (Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong), where I also have conducted research and presented papers at international conferences.
Research interests
I am primarily interested in all issues related to the roles of English as a transnational and de-anglicized language, especially from a political and ideological perspective. I am fascinated by the many understandings and representations of the entity that we call 'English', both in academic and in public discourse. More in particular, I am interested in the relationship between 'English' and (post-)national identities in the context of de-colonization.
Teaching responsibilities
I teach on the BA English Language and Linguistics and on the MA Applied Linguistics & TESOL. The modules I teach on are about English as a global language as well as textual analysis.
